WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. – Monmouth University men's soccer head coach
Robert McCourt announced a talented group of nine student-athletes that will take the field for the Hawks during the 2024 season.
This year's incoming class includes Victor Andersson, Sean Cadigan, Matthew Fuentes, Filip Ivarsson, Brendan Tansey, Daniel Navarro, Colin Volpe, Jasen Bottini, Kevin DeCapua and Ian Brunet.
"I am very excited to welcome this talented group of players," said McCourt. "The 2024 class brings talent, experience, depth and character to the program. This group of young men are all fantastic student-athletes. We are excited to get the 2024 season started!"
Meet the Newest Hawks:
Victor Andersson (Orebro, Sweden/ Virginska Gymnasiet): Andersson joined the Hawks for the Spring 2024 semester and attended the same high school as soon to be Monmouth teammate Filip Ivarsson. He played for Orebro SK U21 and competed for the Swedish Youth National Team.
Sean Cadigan (Cedar Grove, N.J./Montclair Kimberley Academy/St. Peter's): Cadigan is a transfer from St. Peter's University who joined the Hawks in time for the Spring 2024 semester. He appeared in 18 games and made 10 starts at St. Peter's. He played for the TSF Academy.
Filip Ivarsson (Orebro, Sweden/Virginska Gymnasium): Ivarsson attended the same high school as soon to be teammate Victor Andersson. He was the captain of the Orebro SK U21 team and competed for the Swedish Youth National Team.
Kevin DeCapua (Old Saybrook, Conn./Old Saybrook H.S.): DeCapua led Old Saybrook to 65 wins during his four-year career. He tallied 84 career goals, including 31 as a senior. During his final season he earned All-American, All-New England, All-State and All-Conference accolades. He played for Connecticut Rush Select club team.
Brendan Tansey (North Bellmore, N.Y./Mepham H.S.): Tansey tallied 25 goals in a season while playing for the Met Oval and NYCFC club teams.
Ian Brunet (Fayetteville, Ga./Whitewater H.S./Reinhardt): Brunet is a transfer from Reinhardt University where he started 19 matches and tallied three goals and two assists. Brunet had had the opportunity to play internationally in Spain and Italy. He took part in the MLS Next Pro Combine this year. He played his club. Soccer for SSA MLS Next.
Matthew Fuentes (Howell, N.J./Scholar Athletes Leadership Academy/Chestnut Hill College): Fuentes is a transfer from Chestnut Hill College, where he played two seasons. He logged over 2,400 minutes while being named the CACC Defensive Player of the Week twice. Fuentes played for the Jackson Lions of the NPSL and UPSL.
Colin Volpe (Montville, N.J./Montville Township H.S./Oberlin College): Volpe is a transfer from Oberlin College who started 16 games and led the team with 1,424 minutes played. He played his club soccer for Morris Elite USL.
Daniel Navarro (Skokie, Ill./Niles West H.S./North Central College): Navarro is a transfer from North Central College where he played two seasons. He earned All-Conference accolades as a freshman and tallied five goals in two seasons, including one during the 2022 NCAA Tournament. Navarro is playing this summer for the Chicago City SC of the USL 2.
Jasen Bottini (Upper Saddle River, N.J./Northern Highlands Regional H.S.): Bottini played for the TSF Academy from U9-U12 and the Cedar Stars from U13-U19. He was the top goal scorer during his U19 season as he finished with 16 goals.
