Herman Johnsen Named CAA Rookie of the Week

October 13, 2025

RICHMOND, VA – After posting a career-high eight saves at Northeastern, Monmouth University men's soccer freshman goalkeeper Herman Johnsen was named the Coastal Athletic Association (CAA) Rookie of the Week by league officials.

Johnsen, who was honored for the first time in his career, becomes the third Hawk to take home rookie of the week accolades from the conference (Marcin Kluz – Aug. 25, Marco Pantano – Sept. 29). He is the fifth Hawk to be honored by the league this year (Kluz, Jasen Bottini – Sept. 8, Raul Garcia – Sept. 22, Pantano).

Johnsen's eight saves against the Huskies are tied for the second most saves by a goalkeeper in the CAA this season.

He made two first half stops and followed it up with six saves in the second half which gave the Hawks a chance to battle back and tie the game.

Johnsen was particularly effective in the second half where he made three saves in a span of less than a minute.

It was the third time in six matches that Johnsen has registered five or more saves.

This season, Johnsen had a 0.83 goals against average and a .857 save percentage in six contests. He ranks third in the CAA for goals against average and second in save percentage and saves per game (5.00).

Johnsen and the Hawks wrap up the road portion of their regular season schedule when they travel to Stony Brook on Saturday, Oct. 18 for a 2 p.m. start.
