Hawks Battle For 1-1 Tie With Drexel

WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. – Jakob Friedman scored a first half goal as the Monmouth University men's soccer team battled Drexel University to a 1-1 tie in Coastal Athletic Association (CAA) action on Saturday.
 
The Hawks applied the pressure early as Friedman got off a shot in the sixth minute of the match that the Drexel keeper was able to save. 
 
Herman Johnsen had two big saves to keep Drexel off the board as the two teams went back and forth.
 
The Hawks broke through at 43:13 as Patrick Osiecki brought a ball to the top of the box and found Friedman on the far side. Friedman ripped a shot into the upper corner for the 1-0 lead. 
 
Drexel used a Brian Salvino goal in the 64th minute to tie the match at 1-1. 
 
Both teams continued to battle for their chances. 
 
Johnsen made a leaping save as time expired which helped the Hawks preserve the 1-1 tie.

- It was the 11th meeting in the all-time series between the Hawks and Dragons. Drexel leads the series 7-1-3. The two sides have now played to a draw in three of the last four meetings. 
- Brendan Tansey earned his second start of the season and second of his career. 
- Jakob Friedman's goal was his second of the season. He leads the Hawks with 12 points on the year. Friedman ranks third in the CAA while averaging 1.09 points per game.
- Patrick Osiecki's assist was his third of the season. He ranks second on the team in assists this season. 

NUMBERS CRUNCH
- Drexel outshot the Hawks, 12-9 in the contest. The Dragons put five shots on goal to Monmouth's two. 
- The Hawks took five of the match's seven corner kicks. 
- Herman Johnsen made four saves for the Hawks in goal. 
- Raphael Bartell made two saves for Drexel in net.
