Figlio Announces 2024 Monmouth Field Hockey Schedule

June 20, 2024

WEST LONG BRANCH, NJ – Head Coach Carli Figlio of the Monmouth University Field Hockey team announced the program's 17-game schedule for the 2024 season on Thursday afternoon.

This year's schedule has the Hawks going head-to-head with three teams that appeared in the NCAA Tournament and a pair that finished the season ranked inside of the NFHCA's Top 20.

After preseason scrimmages versus Penn State, Saint Joseph's and Princeton, the Hawks will open their 2024 season at home versus the Lehigh Mountain Hawks on Saturday, Aug. 31, at noon. VCU visits So Sweet A Cat Field on Sept. 2, and Monmouth will then look to snap a five-game losing streak to in-state rival Rutgers at home on Sept. 6.

Figlio brings her bunch out to Harrisonburg, Va. on Sept. 8 for the first ever matchup versus the Dukes of James Madison before returning home for the 40th all-time meeting against the Rider Broncs on Sept. 13. Monmouth has won the last nine meetings dating back to 2014.

Monmouth will play its first of six Coastal Athletic Association (CAA) contests on the road at Hofstra on Friday, Sept. 20, kicking off a four-game road swing over the course of 10 days. The Hawks will also travel to Columbia (Sept. 22), another CAA foe in Drexel (Sept. 27), and Temple (Sept. 29). Each of the last two games versus the Owls have seen overtime, with the Hawks taking last year's meeting 1-0 on Sofia Fouces's goal in the 67th minute.

Two home games versus CAA rival Delaware (Oct. 4) and Yale (Oct. 6) kick off the month of October.

The Hawks travel to Iowa City for a pair of games versus Big Ten opponents. Indiana (Oct. 12) and Iowa (Oct. 13) will each play Monmouth for the second time. Though they fell to the Hawkeyes in 2016, Figlio and the Hawks defeated the Hoosiers in overtime at home in 2017.

Three of the final four contests will be conference games, with the first ever matchup with NEC member LIU mixed in on Oct. 27. Monmouth aims to extend its winning streak to five over both Towson (Oct. 18) and Northeastern (Oct. 25). The regular season will end with a rematch versus last year's CAA champion William & Mary on the first day of November.

Monmouth is looking to make a third consecutive CAA Tournament as the conference's top seed. The two semifinals will be played on Friday, Nov. 8, and the final is set to be held on Sunday, Nov. 10, at a location to be determined soon.
