WEST LONG BRANCH, NJ — No. 18 Monmouth suffered just its second loss of the season, snapping a seven-game winning streak after falling to visiting Yale Sunday afternoon, 2-0 on So Sweet A Cat Field.
The Hawks (8-2 overall, 3-0 CAA) came out flat to start on a rainy opening half and the Bulldogs took advantage scoring two within the first five minutes. Miscommunication inside Monmouth's 25 allowed the Bulldogs' Victoria Collee to dribble inside the circle and without a Hawk stepping in front, she placed Yale's first of the game just two minutes in.
The visitors doubled their lead three minutes later, countering quickly off a re-start after catching the Hawks on their heels, Chaira Piccafuoco found herself alone in front of the net and placed her shot around Monmouth goalie
Charlie Bowman to push the score to 2-0.
Yale's defense did the rest, as the Hawks couldn't overcome the slow start. The hosts held possession for the majority of the second half and worked the ball around the circle, but the Bulldogs stayed organized and didn't allow any dangerous passes in front of net. The best chances for Monmouth came off its only two corners in the third quarter.
Milla Frye was called on a foul in the circle with Yale defending the Hawks' first corner well in the 32nd minute. On Monmouth's second penalty corner,
Anna Moors tried a reverse following the insert by
Maja Schröder but her attempt sailed just high with four minutes left in the period.

The Hawks had an opportunity in the fourth with the Bulldogs hit with a green card in the 51st minute, but Yale handled the penalty well and didn't allow any entry passes within its circle and milked the two minutes without giving up a shot.
Action was played mostly within the 25's with the Bulldogs holding the advantage in shots (6-2) and shots on goal (3-0). Monmouth generated the only two penalty corners in the game.
The Hawks are back in action Sunday, traveling to Ann Arbor to face the No. 15 nationally ranked University of Michigan at 11 a.m.
