HAMTON, VA – The Monmouth University men's and women's swimming teams competed in their first-ever CAA Championships over the past four days at the Hampton Aquaplex.
The event was highlighted by
Callan Smith's gold medal win on Friday night in the men's 100-yard backstroke as he set a new school record and won the first ever gold medal at the CAA Championships in school history.
The teams combined to set 19 school records, 12 by the men and seven by the women as well as a number of personal best times.
"I am proud of the effort we put forth this week in our first CAA Championships," head coach
Matt Nunnally said. "Seeing our team break and re-break a number of program records as well as swim personal best times is encouraging for the future and an indication of the hard work the team put in during the season. We competed against some very strong teams and we saw the level of competition the CAA has to offer. I am thankful to our seniors for their dedication to the program and was extremely excited to see
Callan Smith win a gold medal in the 100-yard backstroke."

WEDNESDAY EVENTS

Edie Ancell set a new school record in the women's 200-yard medley relay with their time of 1:42.68.

The men's 200-yard medley relay set a new program record with their time of 1:29.10.

Owen Dyson combined to break the record.

The men broke another program record in the 800 free relay as

Cole Dyson,
Owen Dyson and
Thomas Svane-From finished in 6:39.81.
THURSDAY EVENTS
The men's 400-yard medley team of
Callan Smith,
Gavin Loughlin,
Blake Reynolds and Thomas From set a new program record in 3:18.77. Smith set a new program record time of 47.04 in the 100-yard backstroke during the event.
The women's 400-yard medley relay set a new team record of 3:45.00 as
Camryn McHugh,
Jensen Ritter,
Tahlia Botha and
Alexandra Ho combined in the race. McHugh swam a new program record time in the 100-yard backstroke furing the race.
Cole Dyson qualified for the A Final of the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 4:30.66. Dyson placed seventh overall with his time of 4:30.37.
Owen Dyson advanced to the B Final of the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 20.51. He swam the B final in 20.57 to take 11th place.
Alexandra Ho advanced to the B Final of the 50-yard freestyle. Ho hit the wall in 23.47 in the prelims and finished in 10th place with a time of 23.37.
FRIDAY EVENTS
Callan Smith won the first gold medal at the CAA Championships in program history as he smashed his own program record with a time of 46.56.

Thomas Svane-From combined to set a new school record in the men's 200 free relay with their time of 1:21.37.
Alexandra Ho,
Camryn McHugh,
Jenna Pryne and
Edie Ancell finished in 1:22.11 to set a new school record in the women's 200 freestyle relay.
Callan Smith set the program record in the 200 free with his time of 1:37.87 to earn a fifth place finish.
Tahlia Botha broke her own program record in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:03.45.

Monmouth's A finalists from prelim results were
Callan Smith (200 Free - 1:39.14 and 100 back – 47.31),
Cole Dyson (200 Free - 1:39.05) and
Camryn McHugh (100 Back - 54.90).
Monmouth's B finalists from prelim results were
Tahlia Botha with a then-team record in the 100 Breast (1:03.52),
Thomas Svane-From in the 200 Free (1:40.12) and
Alexandra Ho in the 100 Back (55.79).
SATURDAY EVENTS
Cole Dyson finished fifth in the 1650 free with a team record time of 15:38.71. Dyson also set the 1000 free record in the event when he clocked in at 9:26.03.
Callan Smith won the B final of the 200 back with a new program record time of 1:43.51.
