GREENSBORO, NC - The Monmouth University bowling team added six wins, including two over nationally ranked opponents, to its resume after competing at the second MEAC meet of the 2022-23 season this past weekend in Greensboro, NC.
Out of nine teams, the Hawks, who received votes in the NTCA's latest Top 25 poll, finished third with a 6-2 record. Across 45 traditional games, Monmouth posted an average pinfall per game of 187.0 pins.
On Saturday, the Hawks went 3-2, collecting wins over Coppin State (947-751), Norfolk State (939-910), and Howard (862-737). Monmouth followed up on Sunday going a perfect 3-0, beating No. 24 Morgan State (1,002-943), No. 10 Maryland Eastern Shore (932-855), and UAB via tiebreaker, 127-86, after tying at 930 in regulation.
Monmouth's win total over ranked opponents this season rises to double digits with 10. In addition, MU has a perfect 4-0 record versus UAB, is 3-0 against Howard, and has won both matches versus Norfolk State.
The Hawks were led by junior
Jenna Lehrer, who finished with an average of 202.11 pins per game with five 200+ games. Lehrer placed fifth individually at the meet, while graduate senior
Skylar Smith placed 11
th with a 190 average and two 200+ games.
Siyah Sweeny was strong, as well, averaging 192 pins per game and notching three 200+ outings.
The three wins came over Norfolk State, Howard and UAB, while four of the team's five losses were to nationally ranked opponents. In the win over Howard, the Hawks posted a total pinfall of 1,032 – the third-highest single-match total among all teams at the meet. Also, in the match against Howard, Monmouth tallied the weekend's single-game high for pinfall with 278.
