STONY BROOK, NY – The Monmouth University men's and women's swimming teams opened competition in the spring semester with dual meets against NJIT and Stony Brook on Saturday afternoon at University Pool.
The men's team came away with a thrilling 145-135 victory over the Highlanders after winning the 400-yard freestyle relay in the final event of the day. The win was supported by a strong end to the meet that included Monmouth taking the top two spots in the 200-yard IM led by
Callan Smith and
Cole Dyson, before the two combined with
Owen Dyson and
Thomas Svane-From to win the 400 free relay.
The women's team suffered a narrow defeat, falling to host Stony Brook 171-123.
MEET NOTES

Callan Smith won the 100-yard backstroke in 51.77, the 200-yard backstroke in 1:55.02 and the 200-yard IM in 1:56.19 to earn his 13th victory of the season and the 86th of his career.

Cole Dyson won the 200-yard freestyle (1:43.94) and the 500-yard freestyle (4:41.76) to give him four victories on the season and 16 in his career.

Dean Beyer placed first in the 1000-yard freestyle with a time of 9:46.23. It was Beyer's fifth win of the season and the seventh of his career.

Blake Reynolds took first in the 50-yard freestyle, winning in 21.50. Reynolds added his eighth win of the year and 32
nd of his career.

Thomas Svane-From came in first in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 47.88. Svane-From won his second race of the season and the 11
th of his career.
- The men's 400-yard freestyle relay finished first with a time of 3:07.76.

Jensen Ritter took the top spot in the 1000-yard freestyle with her time of 10:54.79. It was Ritter's fourth win of the season and the ninth of her career.

Camryn McHugh won the 100-yard backstroke in 58.42 and the 200-yard backstroke in 2:07.15. McHugh won her third race of the season and the 54
th of her career.

Alexandra Ho placed first in the 100-yard freestyle, winning in 54.42. Ho secured her second win of 2022-23 and the 29
th of her career.
- The women's 400-yard freestyle relay finished first with a time of 3:42.16.
