BRONX, NY – James Harmstead homered twice and Monmouth University Baseball (8-11) led into the ninth, but a late Fordham University rally secured the win for the Rams in a high-scoring affair, 10-9 on Friday in the Bronx.
Trey Dombroski struck out 12 in the game for MU, while Harmstead and Black had three hits apiece.
Â
Trailing 1-0, Black deposited one over the wall to give MU a 2-1 lead. Three Rams runs put them back in front in the fourth, but Monmouth hung up four in the fifth to take a 6-4 lead. Harmstead lined a three-run homer to center in that fifth, and
Chris Andrews scored on a balk to extend the lead.
Â
Fordham tied things in the sixth and Dombroski exited after seven with 12 K's, the most in a game for a Hawk since 2018. In a tie game in the eighth,
Nick Campana came off the bench to single to left center and give MU a 7-6 lead. The Hawks would add another on
Casey Caufield's RBI single, but Fordham plated a pair in the bottom half to send things to the ninth tied. Harmstead homered leading off the ninth to put MU in front 9-8, but Fordham pieced together two in the bottom half to walk off with the 10-9 victory.

NOTES AND QUOTES
"Our inability to play defense today really hurt us. We gave away too many outs throughout the game. Offensively, we battled all day and took the lead several times late but we were unable to hold it and finish it. Harmstead had a big game and Campana's pinch-hit single was a big moment for us." – Head Coach
Dean Ehehalt
