BRONX, NY – Monmouth University Baseball (8-12) homered twice and had the tying run at the plate in the later innings, but were held off by Fordham University (5-15) Saturday afternoon, 8-5.

A 1-0 game was tied up in the second inning when
Joey Ventresca hit his second home run of the season. A run in the second and two in the third put Fordham up 4-1, and a pair of extra base hits including a two-run homer in the sixth had the Rams leading 7-1 before MU mounted a comeback.

In the seventh,
Colin McCreary singled back up the middle to score two and make it 7-3 before
Casey Caufield doubled to plate another, making it 7-4. The Hawks brought the tying run to the plate but couldn't get any closer. After Fordham scored in the eighth,
Alex Barker matched it with a solo home run but MU wouldn't score again, falling 8-5.
