Marisa DeStasio has been promoted to serve as the program's Associate Head Coach, head coach
Shannon Salsburg has announced. DeStasio is entering her sixth season as a member of Monmouth's coaching staff.
Since DeStasio's arrival, the Hawks have posted an overall record of 129-83 including a 71-21 mark in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) play. Monmouth has captured three MAAC Regular Season Championships while making two appearances in the NCAA Tournament.
"I am so happy to be able to give Marisa the title she deserves," Salsburg said. "She has been a huge piece of our success in the last six years and I am grateful to have her in our softball family."
DeStasio joined the Hawks following six seasons as head coach at Muhlenberg College. In her six seasons at Muhlenberg, she posted a 131-99-1 record, including a 65-31 record in Centennial Conference play.
Prior to Muhlenberg, DeStasio spent the three years as an assistant at Lafayette, helping the Leopards to a school-record 27 wins in 2008 and their first two appearances in the Patriot League Championship game in 2008 and 2009. In 2006 DeStasio was an assistant at MacMurray College in Illinois, where she also served on the event management staff.
A four-year starter at multiple positions at Binghamton University, she was named All-America East Conference Second Team in 2003 as a utility player. She graduated from Binghamton in 2005 with a degree in human development and received her master's in athletic coaching education from West Virginia in 2008.
Monmouth opens its 2022 season against Bethune-Cookman at The Spring Games in Leesburg, FL on Friday, February 18.
