Hawks Fall to Seawolves in Series Opener

April 10, 2026

WEST LONG BRANCH, NJ.  Monmouth softball fell 9–3 to Stony Brook in the opening game of their weekend series against the Seawolves on Friday.

Stony Brook set the tone early, scoring a run in each of the first three innings and capitalizing on a Monmouth error to take an early lead. The Seawolves continued to apply pressure throughout the game, finishing with nine runs on 11 hits.

Monmouth got on the board in the bottom of the third inning when Ella Stevinson delivered an RBI single to bring home Liv Smith, cutting the deficit to 3–1.

Stony Brook responded by adding a run in the fifth, two more in the sixth, and three in the seventh to extend its lead and put the game out of reach.

The Hawks showed some late life in the bottom of the seventh inning. With no outs, Kaitlynn Place sparked momentum by blasting a two-run home run, but the rally fell short as Monmouth dropped the series opener, 9–3.
