FAIRFIELD, CT – Monmouth University Field Hockey (2-1) won its second in a row Friday, topping Fairfield University (1-2) by a 2-1 count.
Colleen Craven netted a first quarter buzzer-beating goal, and
Lorane Vanneste scored for the third straight contest to pace the Blue and White.
MU outshot the Stags 9-2 in the first half, and got on the board at the first-quarter conclusion, when
Aylin Aufenacker played a long ball ahead to
Annick van Lange. van Lange was able to find Craven in front of the cage, and she tucked one in as time expired to make it 1-0 Hawks.
The Blue and White added to the lead in the fourth, when Vanneste buried one from straight on off a corner, her fourth goal in three games to begin her MU career. Madison Hoskins got one back for Fairfield with 4:14 to go, but Monmouth held on to earn its first road victory of the season.
