FIELD HOCKEY’S IREEN FRENKEN NAMED ALL-AMERICAN

BROCKPORT, NY- Senior defender Ireen Frenken (Tilburg, Netherlands/ Odulphus Lyceum), the America East Defensive Player of the Year, was named 2020 AstroTurf/National Field Hockey Coaches Association All-American, the organization announced Tuesday. Frenken, a third team honoree, is the third Hawk all-time to be named an All-American, joining Julie Laszlo (2017, 2016) and Trish O'Dwyer (2014).

The Netherlands native, an All-Mid-Atlantic Region First Team recipient, finished the season with a career-best 28 points, leading the team with 12-goals while dishing out four assists. The defender bolstered the Blue and White's defensive unit to the best goal average in the America East, finishing the year with 1.23. Frenken completed her career in the top-10 all-time in both goals (10th; 22) and assists (5th; 18) and in the top-15 in points (12th; 62) and was three-time all-league player.

"I am so proud of Ireen and her development during her time at Monmouth," head coach Carli Figlio said. "This award is so well deserved. She worked incredibly hard and was truly dedicated to becoming the best field hockey player as she possibly could and it's so amazing to see her be recognized at the very highest level."

Frenken was also named to the 2020 Synapse Sports All-American Second Team.

Frenken, who was tabbed to the All-American East Championship team, helped lead the Hawks to their seventh-straight regular season conference championship during the spring 2021 season.
