WEST LONG BRANCH, NJ – Monmouth University men's lacrosse sophomore faceoff specialist
Matt Soutar has been recognized with a spot on the USILA DI Team of the Week.
Soutar was instrumental for Monmouth in two wins last week as the Hawks captured their second MAAC Tournament Championship in program history. He went 37-for-48 on faceoffs (77.1 percent) and collected 19 ground balls as the team defeated St. Bonaventure and Manhattan to claim the MAAC crown and Tournament MVP honors.
Soutar is fourth in the NCAA this season in faceoff winning percentage at 71.6 percent for the season (151-for-211) and leads the team with 72 ground balls, the second most in team history. He has won 20 faceoffs in a game on two occasions and he has collected 10 ground balls in two different games, as he set program single-game records in both categories.
Monmouth is set to meet top seed North Carolina on Saturday in the first round of the NCAA Tournament. The Hawks and Tar Heels will play on ESPNU beginning at 12 p.m.
