LAWRENCE TOWNSHIP, NJ – The Monmouth University men's and women's track and field teams competed against Rider in a dual meet on Saturday afternoon. The men's team won by a narrow 106-94 margin, while the women's team had a more comfortable win, 100.5-77.5.

The Hawks had a number of impressive performances, highlighted by two excellent performances in the javelin.

Mark Orlando also launched an impressive javelin throw of 69.16m to win the men's event. Rookie Allie Pierontoni moved into 10th place in Monmouth's record books for the 3K and set the freshman record for the event with a time of 10:15.36.

Notes & Quotes
"Today was a lot of fun! We're thankful to Rider and its staff for putting on a great meet. It was exciting because today was two teams battling it out. Track & Field has gotten away from the dual meet set-up and it's hurt the sport in my opinion. Head-to-head competition with a team result is healthy for the sport and it teaches the athletes how to compete and in an event like this, marks didn't matter as much as place. Our program and Rider's program both pride ourselves on full-team track & field and we're trying to be as strong as possible in all event areas.

Today, both the men's and women's teams were able to come out on top.  On the men's side, it was a tight battle right down to the 4x400m.  The women were able to pull away with several outstanding performances. In particular, Mark Orlando and Danielle Steff threw bombs in the javelin.  Overall, it was a great step for our program and we're excited to get back to Rider in a month for the MAAC Championships!"
