EIGHT HAWKS EARN MAAC WOMEN’S SOCCER ALL-LEAGUE HONORS

EDISON, N.J. – The 2021 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Regular Season Champion Monmouth University women's soccer team had eight student-athletes named to the All-MAAC teams and a pair of major award winners, the league office announced Monday morning.

Monmouth had multiple major award winners for the sixth consecutive season as Sarina Jones was named the MAAC Defensive Player of the Year and Krissy Turner was selected as the MAAC Coach of the Year.

"It is a terrific accomplishment for our program to have so many players recognized by the coaches in the league," Turner said.

Turner, now a five-time MAAC Coach of the Year award winner, directed Monmouth to its eighth regular season title in nine years as a member of the MAAC. The Hawks went 12-4-1 overall, including an 8-1-1 mark in league play and an 8-3 record at home with five straight conference wins at Hesse Field on The Great Lawn. In its nine seasons in the MAAC, Monmouth has had 83 all-conference selections and 21 major award winners. The Hawks improved their all-time MAAC record to 74-6-6. Turner's Coach of the Year honor is the eighth of her storied coaching career.

For the fifth straight season, Monmouth's defense has produced a defensive player of the year award recipient. Jones earned the second MAAC Defensive Player of the Year Award of her career and became the first student-athlete to earn postseason All-MAAC honors in five seasons. Jones was the only Monmouth defender to start every game as she captained a unit that posted seven shutouts. Jones also contributed offensively with a pair of game-winning goals against NJIT and Saint Peter's as well as one assist.

Joining Jones on the All-MAAC First Team was senior Jill Conklin. The standout midfielder collected first team honors for the third time in her career after starting 10 games for the Blue and White in 2021. Conklin scored three goals and added two assists for eight points, all in league play, including a three-point performance in Monmouth's win at Canisius.

The trio of Lauren Bruno, Lauren Karabin and Jesi Rossman were Monmouth's All-MAAC Second Team selections and were joined by three MAAC All-Rookie Team picks in Ava Allen, Gabby Allen and Olivia Ramiz.

A staple of Monmouth's defense, Bruno played in 16 games with 15 starts, including every conference contest. Bruno, a sophomore, played all but 60 minutes during the MAAC slate and scored the game-winning goal in the Hawks' win at Canisius. She added an assist in the win over Quinnipiac and was part of six shutouts on the season. It is the first All-MAAC honor of Bruno's career.

A starter at forward in all 17 games, Karabin led Monmouth in scoring with six goals and 14 points during the regular season. She scored five times during Monmouth's tough non-conference schedule and then netted the game-winning goal in the Hawks' victory over Niagara. The award marks the third consecutive season that Karabin has secured a MAAC honor.

Rossman pulled in All-MAAC honors for the fourth straight season and earned Second Team honors for the second time. The senior played every position for the Hawks and earns All-MAAC recognition at forward after finishing second on the team with 13 points in 2021. Rossman scored four goals and led Monmouth with five assists, with three goals and three assists coming in conference play. She scored twice in the win over Niagara and once in the regular-season finale at Manhattan while contributing assists on game-winning goals against Iona and Saint Peter's.

The all-rookie selections represented all three field positions as Ramiz (forward), Ava Allen (midfield) and Gabby Allen (defense) gave Monmouth three MAAC All-Rookie Team honorees in one year for the third time in program history (2016, 2018).

Ramiz played in 13 contests with six starting assignments and scored the game-winning goal in Monmouth's double-overtime victory at Fairfield and added a pair of assists in non-league play. Ava Allen started 12 of 17 matches and scored back-to-back game-winning goals against Iona and Quinnipiac to open the MAAC slate. At the center of Monmouth's defense was Gabby Allen, who led the team in minutes played and started 16 of 17 games. Allen played a critical role in helping the Hawks secure seven clean sheets.

The Hawks return to action on Thursday when they host Fairfield in the semifinals of the MAAC Tournament slated for 6 p.m.
