WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. – The top-seeded Monmouth women's soccer team fell to No. 2 Stony Brook, 1-0, in the CAA Tournament semifinals. The Seawolves scored midway through the first half and rode a strong defensive effort to the victory, eliminating the Hawks and advancing to the conference tournament championship match next weekend.
The first 15 minutes were played primarily in the midfield, with 
Ashley Lavrich providing the game's only shot through a quarter of an hour. After six minutes of constant pressure, the Seawolves scored the decisive goal in the 22
nd minute, utilizing a corner kick to take a 1-0 lead.
The Hawks responded with a strong end to the half, getting shots on net from 
Loren Gehret and Lavrich, but four saves from Stony Brook netminder Jona Hennings kept the visitors on top.
Early in the second half, Monmouth keeper 
Alex Scott made a pair of acrobatic saves to help the Hawks stay within a goal. Gehret and 
Summer Reimet put two more shots on goal, but Hennings was up to the task.
In the 74
th minute, Stony Brook's Eva Sprewell was shown a second yellow card, putting the Hawks up a player for the final 16 minutes, but the Hawks were unable to find the back of the net during the final stretch.
Notes:
	- Alex Scott made three saves between the pipes, allowing one goal. In four starts this season, Scott allowed just two goals and made 13 saves.
 
	- Ashley Lavrich had a team-best three shots on goal on five total attempts.
 
	- Loren Gehret had two shots on net, Summer Reimet had one.
 
	- Junior defender Cadi Hoke played all 90 minutes for the 16th straight game.
 
	- Monmouth finishes the season 10-6-2, earning its 20th consecutive winning season, the longest streak in program history.
 
	- The Hawks have reached 10 wins in each of those 20 seasons, other than the COVID-shortened 2020-21 season.
