EDISON, NJ – Two current Monmouth University swimming student-athletes, Camryn McHugh and
Callan Smith were named to the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference 40th Anniversary Teams, the league announced Tuesday.
Through two seasons, McHugh has been Monmouth's top swimmer at the MAAC Championships. McHugh owns two gold medals, three silver medals and was part of a bronze medal winning relay team in 2020. McHugh has won gold in the 200-yard backstroke in each of her first two collegiate seasons and has two runner-up performances in the 100-yard backstroke. McHugh added a silver medal in the 100 fly and a bronze in the 400 free relay as a sophomore this past February.
In his first two seasons in the MAAC, Smith has made an immediate impact on the conference. The 2019 MAAC Rookie of the Meet won the 500-yard freestyle and two individual silver medals in the 200 free and 200 back. At the 2020 MAAC Championships, Smith won two gold medals in the 100 and 200 back, including setting the MAAC record in the 200 back. Smith also owns a pair of bronze medals as part of relay teams, with the 200 medley relay in 2020 and the 400 medley relay in 2019.
The MAAC 40th Anniversary Swimming and Diving Team highlights some of the best student-athletes in MAAC history. MAAC Swimming and Diving traces back to 1984, but Monmouth joined the conference when the Hawks resumed competition in the 2015-16 season.
