WHERE ARE THEY NOW? CHRIS SUMMERS ’17

Q&A with Chris Summers '17, a member of Monmouth's first MAAC Championship team in 2017.

What have you been up to since graduating from Monmouth?
Until this past June, I worked for JPMorgan Chase & Co. and completed the two-year Corporate Analyst Development Program, while living in Philadelphia. The opportunity to learn and grow professionally at JPMC was wonderful, however, I realized that furthering my education and serving this great nation was where my future lies. I am pursuing a graduate degree in Public Policy and a commission as a U.S. Army Officer. After being accepted into George Washington University's Masters in Public Policy program, I attended U.S. Army ROTC Basic Camp at Fort Knox, Kentucky this summer and will be entering graduate school this fall in Washington, DC.

I have been actively volunteering within the local Delaware and Philadelphia communities. Additionally, I continue to lift weights and trained for/ran the Philadelphia Marathon and other local races.

What is your fondest memory at Monmouth?
Spending time with my teammates during class, practice, and around the local community.

If you could travel anywhere in the world next week where would you go and why?
Thailand—I am planning to travel to multiple Thai islands to explore the nature and culture of a country that has always been a destination that I want to backpack through.

If you could master one skill right now that you don't have, what would it be?
A second language (either Mandarin or Russian). Both languages would help me achieve greater success in my desired civilian and military career paths.

If you could give advice to a current Monmouth player, what would it be?
Enjoy the moment, trust in your teammates, explore opportunities on and off the field that seem uncomfortable to grow yourself, but most importantly … have fun! You are in a unique time in your life where you have unlimited opportunities ahead of yourself—take advantage of the resources at your disposal.

How did your time at Monmouth prepare you for life after graduation?
I learned how to properly manage my time, relationships, and set goals for myself. Monmouth gave me the platform to better myself and encouraged me to chase my dreams.

Between your former teammates and coaches, who has had the most impact on your life?
Teammate -- Eric Berger because he has always led by example, has true grit and determination, and encouraged me to pursue service in the military.

Coach - Fisher because he was tough, but fair in every aspect of coaching. Both on and off the field, Coach Fisher strived to better us as men of character.
