SOFTBALL TO OPEN MAAC CHAMPIONSHIPS AGAINST NO. 3 SIENA THURSDAY

POUGHKEEPSIE, NY – The No. 2 seed Monmouth University softball team will face No. 3 Siena in its first action of the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Championships. The game is scheduled to start at 11:30 AM on the campus on Marist College in Poughkeepsie, NY. Earlier this season, the Hawks swept the Saints, 1-0 and 2-1. Monmouth won its first-ever conference tournament championship in 2018 and made it to the championship game the three years prior.

HAWKS AGAINST THE FIELD
Monmouth went 7-3 against the tournament field during the regular season. The Hawks swept Siena, Niagara, and Fairfield. Marist took both, while Iona split.
 
HOW DID WE GET HERE?
Monmouth was named the Co-Regular Season Champions after finishing 16-4 in league play. Marist secured the No. 1 seed with the tiebreaker. The Hawks have earned their most wins in a single season since 1999.
 
WEEKLY HONORS
Sophomore Alyssa Irons won MAAC Pitcher of the Week six times this season. Juniors Kayla Rosado and Amanda Hopeck each registered one MAAC Player of the Week honor. Freshman Lindsey Baron was named MAAC Rookie of the Week on April 2.
 
IRON(WO)MAN
Sophomore pitcher Alyssa Irons has thrown 238.1 innings so far this season, which ranks second all-time behind Amanda Riley (248.1) . She shattered the program record for wins in a single season (27) after moving past leader Don­na Witt (22). Irons has 215 strikeouts and 32 starts, both of which rank third in program history.
 
TOP OF THE ORDER
Monmouth's 1 through 4 hitters (Lindsey Baron, Sam Tomasetti, Kayla Rosadoo, and Amber Wozniak) combined for an .331 average, 21 home runs, 109 RBI, 42 doubles, 10 triples, 203 hits, and 115 runs during the regular season.
 
ROAD WARRIORS
The Hawks registered an 11-4 record on the road this season.
 
SUPER FRESHMAN
Freshman Lindsey Baron made an immediate splash during her first season in West Long Branch. She increased her program record for doubles in a season to 21. The previous mark was 17, set by Heather Gordon in 2007. She also moved into 5th all-time with 48 runs scored. She ranks 4th all-time with 11 home runs in a season.
 
MAAC MASTERY
Monmouth is 38-5 in MAAC games over the last two years including the post­season.
 
NATIONAL NOTICE
Heading into the MAAC Tournament, the Hawks ranked top-20 nationally in four categories. They ranked 17th with a .974 fielding percentage, and 21st in shutouts (14), strikeout-to-walk ratio (3.41), and triples per game (0.29).
