SOFTBALL DRAWS #10 LSU FOR NCAA REGIONALS

INDIANAPOLIS, IN - After its second straight MAAC Championship win, the Monmouth University softball team drew #10 LSU (40-16) during the NCAA Softball Championship Selection Show on Sunday night. The teams will clash in Baton Rouge on Friday, May 17 at 5:30 PM, with the winner set to face Texas Tech or Louisiana Tech.

Regionals for the NCAA Division I Softball Championship will be held May 17-19, 2019 on 16 campus sites. At each campus site, a four-team, double-elimination tournament will be conducted and the 16 winning teams advanced to the Super Regionals.

The Hawks have registered their second-most wins for a single season in program history with 36, including the win over No. 1 Marist for the MAAC Championship on Saturday afternoon.

After registering a 16-4 MAAC record and a Co-Regular Season Championship, Monmouth won all three games in the conference tournament to earn the tournament title.

Sophomore Alyssa Irons shattered a program record for wins in a single season, and is up to 30-10 overall on the year. The righty was named MAAC Pitcher of the Year. For a single season, Irons ranks first in program history for wins (30), first with 35 starts, first with 257.1 innings pitched, and second with 225 strikeouts. 

Freshman Lindsey Baron was named MAAC Co-Rookie of the Year and leads the team in home runs (12), doubles (21), runs (51), and total bases (121).

Five Hawks were named to an All-MAAC Team following the regular season. Along with Irons and Baron, junior Kayla Rosado and sophomore Erika Coreth were named to the All-MAAC First Team. Junior Amber Wozniak was placed on the All-MAAC Second Team.

Irons, Rosado, senior Jasmine Higa, and junior Deangie Jimenez were all named to the MAAC All-Championship Team following the tournament.
