JERSEY CITY, NJ – Monmouth University Baseball (10-14-1, 2-1) fell in a MAAC series finale to Saint Peter's University (1-20, 1-5) on Monday afternoon at Jaroschak Field in Jersey City, NJ.
JD Andreessen (Depew, NY/Lancaster/Campbell) led MU with three hits in the game.
MU put runners on base in seven of the nine innings, but Saint Peter's turned five double plays on the afternoon to negate the Monmouth opportunities.
James Kelly (Oceanport, NJ/Shore Regional) struck out six in his 5.1 innings, a career best, to keep the Peacocks off the board until the sixth. SPU plated the games' first run in the sixth, with Edwin Feliciano walking leading off and stealing second before going to third on an errant throw. He scored on Peter Ferony's sacrifice fly into foul ground down the right field line to make it 1-0.
Robbie Holmes (Bernardsville, NJ/Bernards) led off the seventh with a double for MU but did not score, with
Max Goione (Fair Haven, NJ/Rumson-Fair Haven/Siena) being called out after being hit by a pitch. Jared Quintero homered in the ninth for SPU, a two-run shot to make it 3-0 Peacocks. The Blue and White put the first two on in the ninth but Saint Peter's turned a double play to end the threat.
