MONMOUTH BASEBALL TOPS PRINCETON WEDNESDAY, 11-6

WEST LONG BRANCH, NJ – JD Andreessen (Depew, NY/Lancaster/Campbell) drove in three runs with three hits as Monmouth University Baseball (11-14-1) topped in-state foe Princeton University (5-16) on Wednesday afternoon, 11-6.

After Max West capped a three-straight hit stretch in the first to give Princeton a 1-0 lead, MU went on top quickly with a two-run bottom of the first via a Clay Koniencki (Schwenksville, PA/Malvern Prep) bases-loaded walk and an error. Zach Schild (Lincroft, NJ/Middletown South) brought home a second-inning run with a ground out, and Andreessen doubled home another to extend the MU lead. The Hawks plated two more unearned runs on a passed ball to take a 6-1 advantage.

Princeton added single runs in the fifth and sixth, with David Harding driving one home with a base hit, but the Tigers left the bases loaded in the sixth, trailing 6-3. Andreessen singled through the left side in the seventh to plate a pair after one had already scored on an error, and MU tacked on two in the eighth to lead 11-3 before Princeton got three across in the ninth to make it an 11-6 final.

NOTES AND QUOTES
"It certainly wasn't pretty today, we had to battle through the game and we took advantage of a lot of base running opportunities. We maximized our run production with six hits and JD was excellent offensively for us. Sometimes you have to win midweek in different fashion and sometimes you have to win in difficult conditions and I thought that our kids played good defense and we pitched out of some jams when we needed to." – Head Coach Dean Ehehalt

"Steckline has thrown well for us, he's been a much different pitcher out of the bullpen, he's somebody that sprints and we can use his style out of the bullpen better than we did earlier in the year when he was starting. He settled the game down nicely when we needed and I thought Stephen Aldrich pitched out of a big jam early in the game with 2 stirkeouts that, looking back, were two huge outs." - Ehehalt
