BASEBALL EDGED BY FLORIDA ATLANTIC, 8-5 FRIDAY

BOCA RATON, FL – Monmouth University Baseball (1-6) took a lead into the sixth inning and brought the tying run to the plate in the ninth inning, but fell to Florida Atlantic (4-6) on Friday night, 8-5. Zach Schild (Lincroft, NJ/Middletown South) homered for the second straight game, but Bobby Morgensen's sixth inning grand slam proved to be the difference in the Owls win.

After a pair of walks, JD Andreessen (Depew, NY/Lancaster/Campbell) got the Hawks on the board with an RBI single, and Johnny Zega (Lincroft, NJ/Middletown South) followed with one of his own to stake MU to a 2-0 lead. FAU got them right back in just two batters on Gunnar Lambert's two-run homer, but the Hawks regained the lead in the second on JP Walsh's (Spring Brook Township, PA/North Pocono) sacrifice fly.

Monmouth extended the lead in the top of the sixth to 4-2 when Schild launched his second home run in as many games, this one again to the opposite field. However, Monmouth's lead was erased in the bottom half after two singles and a hit by pitch loaded the bases with no outs for Morgensen, who hit a grand slam to turn it into a 6-4 FAU lead. Eric Rivera and Lambert went back-to-back with solo shots in the seventh to make it 8-4, with Lambert hitting his second of the night. MU got a run in the ninth on Andreessen's second RBI single of the game and brought the tying run to the plate with two down but couldn't plate the equalizer.
