BUFFALO, NY – The Monmouth University men's and women's swimming teams continued their respective upward trajectories this weekend at the 2019 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Championships at the Burt Flickinger Athletic Center at Erie Community College.

Both teams improved their conference standings and earned their highest finishes at the championships. The men's team placed sixth with 270 points, 104 more than last year, while the women's team took seventh overall with 281 points, 106 more than a season ago.

Individually, Monmouth made history as well, with a pair of MAAC Champions. Callan Smith won the men's 500-yard freestyle and Camryn McHugh secured the gold medal in the women's 200-yard backstroke.

Smith was named the MAAC Swimming Rookie of the Meet after his victory in the 500-yard freestyle and a pair of second-place finishes in the 200-yard freestyle and the 200-yard backstroke.

NOTES & QUOTES
"A great weekend for the Monmouth swimming program as we continue to make positive progress. Each year the expectation is to raise the bar and this season is proof that we are headed in the right direction.

A move forward in the overall standings and a big jump in total points by both the men and the women is a result of many great individual and relay performances. It was exciting to see our first individual event champions and relay teams on the podium."
