Q&A with former Monmouth University women's soccer student-athlete Christine Baker '03, a First Team All-NEC selection and member of the 2000 NEC Regular Season Champions.
What have you been up to since graduating from Monmouth?
I've been married for 12 years to fellow Alum Greg O'Connor. We have two beautiful daughters, Aubrey and Kendall. We reside in Freehold. I work in and manage the accounting department of a Logistics firm and had a long sales career prior in the IT staffing world.
What is your fondest memory at Monmouth?
Being on and off the field with my teammates. It is something that when it is over, you can never have it back. We had so many laughs on long bus trips, nights hanging out, and of course battling on the field together. There is so much that goes into being on a D1 team, it's your own exclusive club and built in best friends.
If you could travel anywhere in the world next week where would you go and why?
Somewhere in Europe, probably starting with Italy. I would love to see the architecture and experience the culture for a couple weeks.
If you could master one skill right now that you don't have, what would it be?
I would love to be a home-builder and interior designer. They are practical skills I would love to be able to put into use in real life.
If you could give advice to a current Monmouth player, what would it be?
Enjoy every moment, make connections and keep them. You are on a great platform to help not only influence your own future, but others as well. Every situation is a lesson, good or bad. It will help define your character, so figure out what each lesson is teaching you. The hard times are just important as the good times.
How did your time at Monmouth prepare you for life after graduation?
Being a student athlete teaches your responsibility and time management. Life throws all sorts of challenges at you, so being in a high-pressure environment will help prepare you to manage what's important. Also, athletes are competitive by nature and never quit.
