SOFTBALL ANNOUNCES FIVE NEWCOMERS FOR 2021

WEST LONG BRANCH, NJ - Monmouth Softball Head Coach Shannon Salsburg has announced the addition of five student-athletes for the 2021 season. Devin Coia, Marissa Thompson, Julia Thuer, Abby Warner, and Kaitlyn Mulcahey have all signed to join the program next year.
 
"I am very excited to announce the signing of Devin, Marissa, Julia, Abby, and Kait to our softball family," said Salsburg. "Our 2020 class will provide added depth and lots of offensive firepower to our program. Each young lady has demonstrated the ability to excel both on and off the field at a very high level. I am beyond excited that they decided to be Hawks and can't wait to watch this class grow!"
 
Coia is a 5'6 catcher from Vineland, NJ. She has a .460 career average at Cumberland County Technical Education Center, and registered her 100th career hit during her junior season. Coia has earned All-Area Catcher, All-County Catcher, and Daily Journal All-Star in all three years she's played so far. She was also named First Team All-South Jersey. In 2018, her team won a conference championship. South Jersey Group 4 championship, and was the state runner-up.
 
Thompson is a 5'1 infielder from Holland, PA. She's a four-year varsity starter at Council Rock South, and also plays for the club team South Jersey Mystics.
 
Thuer is a 5'7 first baseman from Middletown, DE. As a junior at Smyrna High School, she batted .420 with a .442 on base percentage and 21 RBI, earning First Team All-Conference and First Team All-State honors. Over the last two years for her club team Delaware Cobras, she registered a .418 batting average with 58 RBI. Thuer has led Smyrna to back-to-back state championships in 2018 and 2019.
 
Warner is a 5'5 catcher from Toms River, NJ. At Toms River North, she's played four years of varsity. Warner's long list of accolades include First Team All-State, Third Team All-American, Asbury Park Press All-A South Team, Asbury Park Press Second Team All-Shore, Asbury Park Press All-A South Division, MVP, NFCA All-Region, Golden Glove, and Freshman of the Year.
 
Mulcahey is a 5'9 pitcher from Brick, NJ, who plays for Donovan Catholic High School and the Jersey Intensity club team. She's compiled a record of 17-1 with 11 shutouts, and two solo no-hitters. Mulcahey has registered 194 strikeouts in 129 innings pitched. Over the last three years, Donovan Catholic has been Tournament of Champions winner, Shore Conference Champions, three-time Class 'B' South Champions, Non-Public 'A' State Champions, and South Jersey Non-Public 'A' State Champions.
