LAWRENCEVILLE, NJ –  The Monmouth University men's and women's swimming teams fell to MAAC foe Rider on Tuesday evening at Coppola Pool.

The women's team dropped to 4-5 on the season and 2-3 in the MAAC, while the men moved to 6-2 and 2-2 in conference competition.

Freshman Callan Smith picked up where he left off following the fall semester by winning three individual races. Smith won the 200-yard freestyle, the 500-yard freestyle and the 200-yard backstroke.

- Rookie Callan Smith earned three first-place finishes in the meet. Smith has 23 first-place finishes for the 2018-19 season. Smith won the 200 free with his time of 1:46.49. He also won the 200 back (1:56.38) and 500 free (4:47.72).

- Valance Washington took first in the 100-yard freestyle (48.30) to collect the sixth win of his rookie season.

- Ryan Reutti took first in the 200-yard IM, touching the wall in 2:02.20. Reutti won his second race of the season and the ninth of his career.  

- Freshman Camryn McHugh won the 200 yard backstroke to elevate her personal season total to 17 individual wins. McHugh finished 200 back in 2:04.32.

- Rookie Lauren Baines won the 200-yard IM (2.19.74).  She now has six individual victories in her freshman campaign.

- Both the men's and women's teams won the 200-yard freestyle relays. Bradie Keelan, Camryn McHugh, Muriel Maloney and Mary Emich finished first in 1:41.56. On the men's side, the winning team clocked in at 1:28.18 with Valance Washington, Ethan Lucas, Dylan Barkhuizen and Kevin Del Giorno combining for the winning time.

- Erin Ryan set a new season best time in the 1000 free (11:50.61).

- Jackson Rogers set a new season best time in the 200 back (2:04.99).

- Sophia Nogales set a new season best time in the 500 free (5:59.90).

UP NEXT
Monmouth faces a quick turnaround for its next competition as it hosts Seton Hall on Thursday afternoon at Steadman Natatorium. The meet is the final home competition for the Hawks and the program will honor its seniors prior to the opening race.
