EUGENE, OR – Senior
Allie Wilson placed 11
th overall at the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships in the women's 800 meters, running 2:05.55. Racing in the second heat, Wilson finished 7
th with a time that was faster than the automatic qualifiers for the finals in the third heat. With this performance, Wilson will be named a 2
nd Team All-American.
Wilson becomes the first female Hawk to be named to an All-American team since 2014, when Mariah Toussaint finished 13
th in the long jump at the NCAA Indoor Championships. Her finish is the second best in school history for a Monmouth female at NCAAs, behind only Olympic Trials qualifier Tisifenee Taylor (4
th in the long jump in 2007).
This was Wilson's first race at the NCAA Championships. Between her win at the ECAC Championships, the NCAA Preliminary Round and today, she recorded the top three times in school history and four of the top five in the event. The owner of eight school records in indoor and outdoor track, Wilson will return next year as a graduate student for her final year of eligibility.
"Allie ended up in the fastest heat by far today and raced tough in front of another great crowd at Hayward Field," said head coach
Joe Compagni. "She had bests of 2:11 in the 800 and 4:33 in the 1500 before this year, and finished the season at 2:04 and 4:22. That's a dramatic improvement. She made that happen with plenty of hard work with Coach Tarello, taking care of the details off the track, and then having a ton of faith and courage to race against the best."
Monmouth will be back in action next week, with three athletes qualified for the U.S. Junior National Championships at the University of Indiana.
