SOFTBALL SET TO HOST 2018 MAAC CHAMPIONSHIPS

WEST LONG BRANCH, NJ – After winning the MAAC Regular Season Championship with a 19-1 conference record, the Monmouth University softball team will host the 2018 MAAC Championships, set to run from Wednesday, May 9 to Saturday, May 12 at MU Softball Park in West Long Branch, NJ.

HAWKS AGAINST THE FIELD
Monmouth went 9-1 against the field this season, with its only loss coming at Iona. The Hawks swept No. 2 Fairfield, No. 3 Siena, No. 5 Manhattan, and No. 6 Marist.
 
HOW DID WE GET HERE?
Monmouth ran away with the MAAC Regular Season Championship after going 19-1 in league play. It marked the best record in team and conference history.
 
WEEKLY HONORS
Senior Amanda Riley won MAAC Pitcher of the Week twice this season after going 11-0 in conference play. Senior Katie Baron won MAAC Player of the Week honors on February 20 after batting .588 on 10-of-17 at the plate. She launched three home runs and racked up six RBI, helping Monmouth to three wins at Eastern Michigan's Madeira Beach Invitational in Florida.
 
RILEY'S HISTORIC SEASON
During the 2018 season, senior Amanda Riley set the program record for career strikeouts. She now has 630, which is 133 more than the next closest player. Heading into the tournament, Riley also ranks first in Monmouth his­tory for innings pitched (654.2), first for saves (10), second for games played (144), second for starts (99), and third for wins (52).

HOME SWEET HOME
The Hawks notched a perfect 11-0 record at home this season, including five conference sweeps.
 
RECORD-SETTING STREAKS
Monmouth went on an 11-game winning streak from March 31 to April 21, matching the second-longest streak in program history. The Hawks are currently riding a 10-game winning streak to close the regular season. The team won 21 of its final 22 games heading into the MAAC Championships.
