WEST LONG BRANCH, NJ – So Sweet A Cat Field and E. Todd Murray track inside Kessler Stadium are set to receive upgrades in surfaces, Vice President and Director Athletics
Dr. Marilyn McNeil, announced Wednesday. The capital projects are to begin as early as this week.
"Athletics is grateful for the support given by the University for the renovations of these facilities," stated McNeil. "Both the track and field hockey field will be home to five of our most successful programs and will be appreciated by our athletes and community for years to come!"
Home to the Monmouth field hockey team since 2007, So Sweet A Cat Field will receive a new water-based turf. The Field Turf Hockey Gold Synthetic Turf System is a tufted polyethylene surface designed for the highest levels of competition. The player-friendly product is built with a uniquely engineered polyethylene filament to allow it to retain memory and have exceptional durability. In addition, the field will feature a watering system and will meet FIH requirements.
So Sweet a Cat Field, which was originally made possible by a donation by Jane Freed and Kathleen Stefanelli and is named after Freed's racehorse, hosted its first game October 12, 2007 between the Hawks and Saint Francis (Pa.). MUFH has played 100 games on the site to date and holds a 64-36 record. So Sweet A Cat Field has played host to four-straight MAAC Championships and a pair of NCAA Play-In games over the last four seasons.
Inside the newly renovated Kessler Stadium, the E. Todd Murray track will be replaced with Beynon's Sports BSS-1000 13mm Embedded IAAF Certified Blue Polyurethane Synthetic Track surface. The full pour polyurethane track and field system, will be Monmouth navy blue with grey exchange zones. The long jump, pole vault and javelin areas will also feature the new surface surrounding the outside of the Stadium.
The Monmouth men's and women's outdoor track and field teams head into this upcoming weekend looking to secure its fifth-straight MAAC Championships, respectively. The two sides have captured an outdoor championship for nine straight-seasons dating back to the 2009 campaign.
