WEST LONG BRANCH, NJ – The Monmouth University men's swimming team knocked off visiting Fairfield in its home-opening meet on Saturday afternoon at Steadman Natatorium.
The men won by a 191-67 final score to improve to 2-0 on the season, while the women's team fell to the defending MAAC Champions, 172-90. The women's team moved to 1-1 on the season.
Freshmen
Callan Smith turned in two individual first-place finishes and was part of two winning relay teams, while classmate
Dylan Barkhuizen also won two races and was part of the first-place 400-yard medley relay. Camryn McHugh won three races for the second straight week to continue her strong freshman campaign.

- Monmouth's men won the 400-yard medley relay and the 200-yard freestyle relay.

Valance Washington won the 400 medley and Smith, Washington,
Ethan Lucas and
Patrick McAllister combined for the win in the 200 free.
- Freshmen
Callan Smith (200 free, 200 back) and
Dylan Barkhuizen (200 fly, 100 fly) each earned two first-place finishes. Smith has five first-place finishes and Barkhuizen has four this season.

Ryan Reutti (200 IM) each turned in first-place finishes.
- Washington's win was his first career, McAllister's first-place finish was the second of his freshman season, D'Angelo won his fifth career race, Lucas took first for the third time in his career, Askew earned his fifth career top finish and Reutti picked up his eighth first-place time of his career.
- For the second consecutive week, Camryn McHugh turned in a trio of first-place finishes in the 100 back, 200 back and 100 fly.
NUMBERS CRUNCH

Callan Smith set a new team record in the men's 200-yard freestyle with his time of 1:43.87. Smith now holds records in the 200 and 1000 free.
- Camryn McHugh also set a new team record. McHugh won the women's 100-yard backstroke and broke her own team record when she touched the wall in 58.65.
Note: All team records recognized are since the reintroduction of the program in 2015.
