FIELD HOCKEY OVERWHELMS BROWN, 9-0

WEST LONG BRANCH, NJ – Senior Meg Donahue and sophomore Josephine van der Hoop both registered hat tricks as the Monmouth University field hockey team built a seven-goal first half lead and never looked back in an eventual 9-0 victory over Brown, Sunday afternoon at So Sweet A Cat Field.  Senior goalkeeper Christen Piersanti and freshman Gabi Millan combined to post the Hawks' second straight shutout.

Monmouth, which outscored its opponents this weekend 16-0, got things started two minutes in as Julie Laszlo scored off a corner.  van der Hoop scored twice over an 11 minute span before junior Gab Girardi connected on a loose ball in the circle to put the Hawks ahead by four.  Donahue deflected in her first of the afternoon off a broken corner shot by Rachel Konowal and followed up with a goal on a penalty stroke after Elyssa Okken's fast break attempt drew the free opportunity.  Georgia Garden Bachop deflected in a Laszlo blast off a corner to allow the Blue and White to enter the break ahead 7-0.  Donahue and van der Hoop both capped off their hat tricks 2:05 apart late in the second half.

Piersanti finished with two saves in her second-straight clean sheet, while Millan was not forced to make a save.
