FIELD HOCKEY EARNS 3-2 ROAD WIN AT QUINNIPIAC

HAMDEN, CT – Sophomore Annie Deusch's first career goal in the 46th minute proved to be the game-winner as the Monmouth University field hockey team defeated former league rival Quinnipiac 3-2, Sunday afternoon at QU's Turf Complex.  Josephine van der Hoop and Kelly Hanna also scored for the Hawks, who improve to 5-2 on the year with their third-straight victory.

Monmouth jumped ahead in the sixth minute when van der Hoop capped off a feed from Rachel Konowal to put the Hawks ahead, 1-0.  Quinnipiac scored twice over a five minute span to go ahead by one before Hanna's deflection off a blast from Julie Laszlo on a corner carried the two teams into the break tied at 2-2.  Ten minutes into the second half, a free hit caromed its way to Deusch along the left side where she carried the ball into the circle, split two defenders and unloaded a big shot that beat the QU goalkeeper inside the right post for the game-winner.

Senior goalkeeper Christen Piersanti earned the victory in cage for the Hawks, making three saves.
