MONMOUTH BASEBALL HITS FOUR HOME RUNS BUT FALLS AT FURMAN SATURDAY

Box Score GREENVILLE, SC- Monmouth's baseball team (1-4) had four different players hit home runs on Saturday, but dropped the middle game of a weekend series at Furman, 12-5. The Paladins scored runs in five consecutive innings to take the second game of the trio.

Monmouth totaled eight hits and scored all five of their runs via the long ball, while Furman scored in every inning from the second to the sixth, with four of those coming as multi-run innings. Cameron Whitehead put Furman in front with a two-run home run, his second in as many days, to make it 2-1 in the second after Pete Papcun (Brick, NJ/Christian Brothers Academy) staked the Hawks to a 1-0 lead in the top of the inning.

Trent Alley's two-run triple highlighted a four-run fifth for Furman to extend the lead to 12-3 after scoring three times in the third and twice in the fourth. Chris Gaetano (Madison Township, PA/Scranton Preparatory) hit a two-run shot, his second of the season, in the seventh to cap the scoring.

-Clay Koniencki hit his first career home run, a solo shot in the fifth.
-Shaine Hughes hit his first homer since 3/15/16 at James Madison.
-Hughes is the lone Hawk with a hit in every game this season.

-Papcun and Gaetano were the long Hawks with multiple hits on the afternoon.
-Regan Dombroski made his collegiate debut on the mound, allowing just one hit in two scoreless innings.
-Mike Brambilla made his 2017 debut with a spotless, two-strikeout eighth inning.
-Dan Abate picked up his first career hit, an eighth inning pinch-hit single.

NUMBERS CRUNCH
-Monmouth was outhit 17-8.
-Six Furman starters had multiple hits.
-Furman scored in five separate innings, while MU scored in four.
-Grant Schuermann got the win for Furman to move to 2-0, fanning six in seven innings.
-Joe Molettiere fell to 0-2 after allowing seven runs on 10 hits through four innings.
