#25 FIELD HOCKEY EARNS ROAD SHUTOUT AT HOFSTRA

HEMPSTEAD, NY – Three different Hawks scored and the defense recorded its fourth shutout of the season as the 25th-ranked Monmouth University field hockey team defeated Hofstra 3-0, Sunday afternoon at Hofstra's Field Hockey Stadium.  The Hawks outshot the Pride, 14-1, and earned five more attacking corners in the second half as they improve to 9-3 overall on the season.

The Blue and White opened the scoring when Mallory Kusakavitch registered her second marker in as many games to put the Hawks up one six minutes before the break.  Kelly Hanna deflected in a shot off a corner in the 42nd minute before Elyssa Okken added an insurance goal in the 10 minutes later to finish of the afternoon's scoring. 

Senior goalkeeper Christen Piersanti made three saves in cage, all in the first half, to earn her 17th career shutout.

- Monmouth earned the program's first victory over Hofstra.

NUMBERS CRUNCH
- Mallory Kusakavitch scored for the second straight game to increase her goal total to six this season.  The goal is the senior's second career game-winner.
- Kelly Hanna converted her eighth goal of the season, a new career high.
- Julie Laszlo increased her point streak to nine games with an assist.  The senior, who has 16 helpers which ties a career high, has accumulated 21 points over the nine-game span. 
- Elyssa Okken notched the fourth goal of her career with her second marker of the season. 
- Josephine van der Hoop assisted on Kusakavitch's and Okken's goal.  The sophomore has 22 points on the season. 
- Christen Piersanti notched her 45th win in cage in her 68th career start.
- For the game, Monmouth outshot Hofstra 20-5 and earned 10 penalty corners, compared to just five for the Pride.

NEXT UP
The Hawks resume MAAC play next Friday, October 13th, when it welcomes LIU Brooklyn to So Sweet A Cat Field at 4 p.m. before visiting Villanova on Sunday, October 15th at noon in the final non-conference game of the year.
