WAPPINGERS FALLS, NY – The Monmouth baseball team was eliminated from the 2016 MAAC Tournament by Manhattan, 8-1 Thursday night after winning earlier in the day to advance. The Hawks conclude the 2016 campaign with 30 wins.

Manhattan took a 4-0 lead in the second, totaling six hits in the inning and scoring four times. Jason Patnick started the scoring with a long two-run triple to the gap in right center, and Chris Reynolds pushed a bunt towards the right side for a base hit to score a second run. Jose Carrera capped the innings scoring with an RBI single up the middle to make It 4-0 Jaspers.

The Hawks fought back in the third when Grant Lamberton (Newark, DE/Salesianum) went to second on a wide throw across the infield and scored on two ground balls to make it 4-1.

The Jaspers tacked on four more in the fifth, getting a two-run double to straightaway center from Michael Pfenninger and RBI singles from Patnick and Adam Genners to make it 8-1.

Anthony Ciavarella (Phillipsburg, PA/Phillipsburg) tossed 4.1 innings and allowed seven runs while Tyler Ksiazek (South Abington Township, PA/Abington Heights) added 3.2 solid innings out of the bullpen, allowing a run on three hits with four strikeouts.

Joe Jacques tossed a complete game for Manhattan, allowing three hits and a run. Five Jaspers had multiple hits on the day.

Monmouth concludes the 2016 season with 30 wins and a spot in the conference tournament for the third year in a row in the MAAC.
