SOUTH ORANGE, NJ – Seton Hall got five RBI's from Joe Poduslenko en route to defeating Monmouth baseball, 13-3 Tuesday afternoon at Owen T. Carroll Field. MU is now 18-18 while the Pirates are 26-12.
Seton Hall scored four in the first on a Derek Jenkins RBI single and a Rob Dadona two-run single. Dadona came through again in the third with an RBI hit to right, and Matt Fortin's fielder's choice in the fourth made it 6-0 Pirates.
MU got one back in the sixth, with Dan Shea (Wilmington, DE/Salesianum) singling to second base and Robbie Alessandrine (Sewell, NJ/Gloucester Catholic) putting a base hit through the left side. Two straight walks to Pete Papcun (Brick, NJ/Christian Brothers Academy) and Jordan McCrum (Dallas, PA/Dallas Senior) got MU on the board, making it 6-1 SHU.
Poduslenko knocked a grand slam in the sixth to extend the Pirates lead to 10-1. Clay Koniencki (Schwenksville, PA/Malvern Prep) scored on a wild pitch in the eighth to make it 10-2, and SHU added three in the eighth on two RBI ground outs and a double by Brett Fontenelli. Justin Trochiano (Morganville, NJ/Marlboro) singled in a run in the MU ninth to make it 13-3, the final score.
James Kelly (Oceanport, NJ/Shore Regional) started and threw three innings, taking the loss. Ben Hoffman (Berlin, NJ/Voorhees) tossed 1.1 scoreless innings, and Shaine Hughes (Sewell, NJ/Washington Township) had two hits for MU. Jenkins and Dadona had three hits apiece for Seton Hall, which used eight pitchers in the game. Luke Cahill started and threw a scoreless first inning, getting the win.
MU returns to the diamond tomorrow against Lafayette in Easton, PA at 3:30 p.m.
