BASEBALL ANNOUNCES CLASS OF 2016

WEST LONG BRANCH, NJ – Monmouth baseball and head coach Dean Ehehalt have announced the addition of 11 incoming players for the fall of 2016. Incoming freshmen Dan Abate, Dan Dallas, Regan Dombroski, Chris Hawryluk, John LaRocca, Danny Long, Brian Reiss, Zach Schild, Trevor Wagner, JP Walsh and Johnny Zega compose the MU baseball Class of 2020.

“I am very pleased with our class,” said head coach Dean Ehehalt. “There is a good balance with this group; several guys have the ability to make an immediate impact. We do have several players that are legitimate two-way players and that will prove valuable.”

Dan Abate | Infielder | Wayne, NJ | Wayne Hills

Dan Abate is a middle infielder from Wayne, NJ and plays scholastically at Wayne Hills High School. Abate was a First Team All-County and All-League choice as a junior, as well as All-State. He hit .435 with nine triples and an on base percentage of .467, while swiping 20-of-21 bases as a junior. He was named a Perfect Game Underclassmen All-American, and played in the Garden State All-Star Game. His brother Mike is an All-NJAC outfielder at William Paterson University, and his father George is a former Monmouth baseball captain.

Dan Dallas | First Base/Pitcher | Springville, NY | Canisius High School

Dan Dallas is a first baseman and left-handed pitcher from Springville, NY and plays high school baseball at Canisius High School. At the plate, Dallas hit .553 with 15 doubles and 34 RBI's last year. On the mound, he allowed just 13 hits and four runs in 38 innings pitched, striking out 60 and going 5-1 with a 0.74 ERA. He captains the Crusaders and has for the last three years, and was an All-Catholic selection in 2014 and 2015. Dallas was named Monsignor Martin Defensive Player of the Year in 2015 and All Western New York First Team. He was an All-Catholic Western New York High School Baseball All Star in 2013, 2014 and 2015.

Regan Dombroski | Pitcher | Manasquan, NJ | Wall

Regan Dombroski is a right-handed pitcher from Manasquan, NJ and pitches locally at Wall High School. Dombroski, a three-year varsity letter winner for the Knights, posted a 2.40 ERA in 2015 and was named to the Perfect Game World Championship All-Tournament Team. He earned more PG honors when he was named to the Northeast Qualifier All-Tournament Team.

Chris Hawryluk | Pitcher | Jackson, NJ | Jackson Memorial

Chris Hawryluk is a right-handed pitcher from Jackson, NJ, playing at local Jackson Memorial High School. A three-year varsity player for the Jaguars, he posted a 2.91 ERA with opponents hitting .267 against him as a junior. At the plate, he hit .423 and was a 2015 Second Team All-Shore selection. Hawryluk was named Honorable Mention All-New Jersey, and helped lead Jackson Memorial to the Shore Conference and Central Jersey Group 4 semifinals in addition to an Ocean County Tournament title in 2015. He was selected to play in the 2015 Carpenter Cup.

John LaRocca | Outfield | Plainview, NY | St. Dominic

John LaRocca is an outfielder from Plainview, NY, playing scholastically at St. Dominic. He was an All-League selection last season, hitting .347 with 26 hits in 2015. He drove in 15 runs, stole 13 bases, scored 13 runs and added six extra base hits. LaRocca earned recognition on multiple Perfect Game teams.

Danny Long | Shortstop/Pitcher | Sellersville, PA | Pennridge

Danny Long is a shortstop and right-handed pitcher from Sellersville, PA where he plays at Pennridge. Long was a Suburban One First Team All-League choice in 2015, hitting .409 as a junior. He also earned a spot on the Second Team Southeastern Pennsylvania, and played on the American Continental Carpenter Cup Team in 2014 and 2015. Long also picked up a spot on the Pennsylvania Big 26 Team in his junior year. His cousin and former Pennridge teammate Joe Molettiere is currently a freshman pitcher at Monmouth.

Brian Reiss | Pitcher | Watchung, NJ | Watchung Hills

Brian Reiss is a left-handed pitcher from Watchung, NJ, pitching at Watchung Hills. He was a First Team All-Skyland Conference choice in 2014 and 2015, also earning Second Team All-Somerset County in both years. He earned Second Team All-Area from the Courier News in 2015 after being named to the Third Team in 2014. As a junior, he threw 52.2 innings, posting an ERA of 2.26 with opponents hitting .247 against him. He pitched to a 1.68 ERA as a sophomore, going 4-2 in 41.2 innings.

Zach Schild | Catcher | Lincroft, NJ | Middletown South

Zach Schild is a catcher from Lincroft, NJ and catches for the Eagles at Middletown South. He hit .320 with 32 hits as a junior, driving in 20 runs and throwing out 12 runners from behind the plate. He helped lead the Eagles to the 2015 Shore Conference Class A North title, winning 21 games. Schild was a Shore Conference Class A North Second Team choice, and was selected to play in the Under Armour All-America Preseason Tournament in Arizona. Schild plays high school baseball with incoming teammate Johnny Zega.

Trevor Wagner | Pitcher | Beachwood, NJ | Toms River South

Trevor Wagner is a right-handed pitcher from Beachwood, NJ, playing high school baseball at Toms River South. Wagner has been a three year varsity contributor for the Indians, notching 45 hits and hitting .416 as a junior. He drove in 26 runs and scored 41, while contributing 72 innings on the mound. On April 7, 2016, Wagner tossed a no-hitter against Toms River North, striking out nine.

JP Walsh | Outfield | Spring Brook Township, PA | North Pocono

JP Walsh is an outfielder from Spring Brook Township, PA and plays scholastically at North Pocono High School. Walsh hit .403 in his first two years with the Trojans, totaling 40 hits. He stole 31 bases, 22 as a junior, to set school records in both. He was a two-time First Team All-League choice, and earned a spot on the First Team All-Region. Walsh helped North Pocono to a 2015 league title, and was individually selected for the WWBA World Championships All-Tournament Team.

Johnny Zega | Infield | Lincroft, NJ | Middletown South

Johnny Zega is a shortstop from Lincroft, NJ, playing at Middletown South High School. He hit .348 with 31 hits and 20 RBI's as a junior, scoring 25 runs and adding 12 extra base hits. He was named First Team All-Shore and All-Division, while being picked Third Team All-State. He played in the Carpenter Cup, and was a Perfect Game Underclassmen Honorable Mention. Zega earned a spot on the WWBA Underclass World Championship All-Tournament Team in October 2014. Zega plays high school baseball with incoming teammate Zach Schild.
