STONY BROOK, N.Y. – The Monmouth University baseball team hit three home runs en route to an 8-4 win at Stony Brook University in Coastal Athletic Association (CAA) play on Friday afternoon.

The Hawks won their second straight game and have now won six of the last seven contests.

Stony Brook scored the game's first run on a wild pitch in the bottom of the first.Â

The Hawks went on top in the third as
Colin Richter launched a two-run home run to right field. Monmouth pushed its lead to 4-1 on
Simmi Whitehill's two-out two-run single in the frame.Â

Stony Brook tied things up with a three-run bottom of the fourth.

The Hawks took the lead back for good as Whitehill led off the sixth with a home run to right center.Â

Monmouth pushed its lead to 6-4 in the seventh as
Brendan Buecker's RBI single scored Richter.

The Hawks tacked on another run in the top of the eight as
Nick Lovarco led off with a double and scored on
Will Fahey's fielders choice.Â

Monmouth scored its final run in the ninth as
Wyatt Hunt led off with a home run.
Kevin Opanel worked around a two-out single in the ninth to close out the 8-4 win.

- The Hawks picked up their 12th road win of the season. It's their most road wins since the 2019 team won 16 games away from West Long Branch.
- The win snapped a six-game losing streak on the road against Stony Brook.
- Simmi Whitehill's third-inning single extended his reached base safely streak to 35 straight games. It moves him past Casey Caufield (2022) and Kyle Messineo (2006) for the longest reached base safely streak by a Hawk in the last 20 years.
- Wyatt Hunt had a pair of base hits in the game and now leads the Hawks with 15 multi-hit games this season.Â
- Whitehill finished with three RBIs and now leads the Hawks with nine multi-RBI games on the year.
- The Hawks hit three home runs and are now 5-1 on the year when they hit three or more home runs in a game.Â
- Ryan Mealy picked up his fourth win of the season after going 6.1 and allowing four runs on seven hits.
- Kevin Opanel limited the Seawolves to just two hits over the final 2.2 innings.
