BASEBALL DEFEATED BY GEORGE WASHINGTON, 14-5 FRIDAY

WASHINGTON, DC– Monmouth University's baseball team (3-8) was defeated by George Washington (5-8) by a 14-5 count on Friday afternoon at Tucker Field. Freshman Jordan McCrum (Dallas, PA/Dallas Senior) hit his first career home run, while Joey Bartosic had four hits for the Colonials.

Kevin Mahala drove in two runs with a single as part of a four-run third that put GW up 5-0. Robbie Metz also had an RBI hit in the frame. MU answered back on McCrum's three-run shot to left after two straight walks to trim it to 5-3, but a seven-run fourth put George Washington up 12-3.

In that fourth, none of the runs were earned as all came across with two outs. Mark Osis had an RBI single, and Bobby Campbell drove in a pair with a double. Metz, Brandon Chapman and Andrew Selby all pitched in with run-scoring hits to extend the Colonials lead to 12-3.

GW put home two more unearned runs in the fifth to widen the gap to 14-3, with Mahala singling home another run. MU added two in the top of the sixth on Conor Gammond (Spring Lake, NJ/St. Rose)'s first collegiate RBI on a double to left center, making it 14-4 before McCrum added a run on a ground out, his fourth run driven in on the afternoon.

Frank Trimarco (Merrick, NY/Sanford H. Calhoun) took the loss for MU, while freshman James Kelly (Oceanport, NJ/Shore Regional) tossed two shutout innings out of the bullpen. McCrum drove in four for the Hawks.

Bobby LeWarne allowed five runs on six hits through 5.2 innings to earn the win, while Bartosic had four hits and Osis and Metz added three apiece.

The teams return to action tomorrow afternoon at 1:00 p.m.
