ARLINGTON, VA – The Monmouth University men's tennis team won three of four singles flights contested, but fell at Georgetown, 4-3, Friday afternoon. The Hawks suited up just four players and couldn't overcome losses by default at Nos. 5 and 6 singles.
After Georgetown took the doubles point with wins at Nos. 1 and 2,
Przemyslaw Filipek (Bedzin, Poland/Second Lo [Silesia]),
Vidit Vaghela (Ahmedabad, India/A.G. High School [H.L. College of Commerce]) and
Nicola Pipoli kept the Hawks alive with wins at Nos. 1, 2 and 4 singles, respectively. But, in addition to wins by default at Nos. 5 and 6, Georgetown clinched the match with Peter Beatty's 6-4, 6-3, win over
Ale Gomez Estrada (Guayaquil, Ecuador/PERT) at No. 3.
Filipek defeated Marco Lam, 6-2, 7-5, at No. 1 singles, while Vaghela battled back from down a set to take a 4-6, 6-4, 10-4, victory over Daniel Khanin at No. 2. Pipoli rounded out the Hawks' singles wins with a 6-4, 6-0, win over Will Sharton at No. 4. Â
The Hawks return to action Feb. 24, when they play host to Drexel. First serve from Shrewsbury Racket Club is slated for 8 p.m.
