TRIMARCO STELLAR AS BASEBALL SPLITS WITH SIENA SATURDAY

LOUDONVILLE, N.Y.- Frank Trimarco (Merrick, N.Y./Sanford H. Calhoun) struck out ten as the Monmouth baseball team split a doubleheader with Siena on Saturday afternoon, winning the first game 7-2 before dropping the second game 2-1.

Trimarco was excellent in the opener, throwing eight innings and allowing two runs, one earned on three hits with 10 strikeouts, a career high. Monmouth got on the board with a three-run third, beginning with a Steve Wilgus (Woolwich, N.J./Gloucester Catholic) walk and a Shaine Hughes (Sewell, N.J./Washington Township) infield single. Chris Gaetano (Madison Township, Pa./Scranton Preparatory) doubled home the first run, and Hughes later scored on a wild pitch to give MU a 2-0 lead. Kyle Perry (Toms River, N.J./Toms River South) singled home the third run of the frame to put the Hawks up 3-0.

Siena answered with single runs in the fourth and fifth innings, with Dan Swain coming home on an error in the fourth and getting a home run from freshman Joe Drpich in the fifth leading off.

Clinging to a one-run lead in the eighth, Monmouth plated a run via a Dan Shea (Wilmington, Del./Salesianum) sacrifice fly to take a 4-2 lead before blowing it open in the ninth. Christian Holland (Pittsburgh, Pa./Baldwin) doubled to start the offensive attack, and Robbie Alessandrine (Sewell, N.J./Gloucester Catholic) doubled down the right field line to bring him in. After Grant Lamberton (Newark, Del./Salesianum) singled on the infield, Wilgus scored him on a fielder's choice and Hughes would later double to make it 7-2 Monmouth. Justin Andrews (Langhorne, Pa./Neshaminy) worked a scoreless ninth to give MU the win.

Trimarco worked eight solid innings, striking out ten and walking one, allowing two runs, one earned to get the win. Andrews threw a shutout ninth, and Hughes had three hits for MU in the opener. Wilgus scored three times in game one as well.

Ed Lewicki took the loss for the Saints, allowing four runs on five hits in seven innings. Drpich had a homer for Siena, and no Saints recorded multiple hits.

The second game was a pitcher's duel, as T.J. Hunt (Wyckoff, N.J./Ramapo) worked 6.1 to take the loss, allowing two runs on six hits with no walks and six punch outs. Matt Quintana started and worked 6.2 good innings for Siena, allowing a run on three hits with six K's. Kyano Cummings came on to get the last out of the seventh and ended up getting the win.

Nobody scored until the bottom of the sixth, when Dan Swain led off the inning with a home run for Siena to give them a 1-0 lead. With one down in the seventh of the seven-inning game, Shea doubled to right and went to third on a wild pitch on a Holland walk. Ryan Bailey (Mount Kisco, N.Y./Fox Lane) reached on a fielder's choice and Shea scored to tie the game at one.

With one out in the bottom of the seventh, Drpich homered to give Siena the win in game two, 2-1.

The teams will wrap up the three-game series tomorrow with a single game beginning at noon.
