BASEBALL FALLS AT DALLAS BAPTIST ON SATURDAY

DALLAS, Texas. – Dallas Baptist put up runs in four separate innings on Saturday afternoon en route to a 6-1 win to take the second game of a three-game set at Horner Ballpark. The Hawks fall to 0-2 in 2015, while the Patriots improve to 2-0 on the young season.

Landon Wilson started for DBU and was credited with the win, working 4.2 innings and allowing a run on four hits. Chance Adams, Jay Calhoun and Sean Stutzman combined to keep Monmouth off the board for the final 4.1 innings. MU started T.J. Hunt (Wyckoff, N.J./Ramapo), who went five innings, allowing five runs, four earned on five hits. Frank Trimarco (Merrick, N.Y./Sanford H. Calhoun) allowed a run in his two innings, and Adam Yunginger (Lancaster, Pa./Manhein Township) tossed a scoreless eighth.

Four different Patriots drove in runs, with David Martinelli going 2-for-4 with a run scored and a solo home run. Chane Lynch and Nash Knight both put together multi-hit contests. Connor White (Wall, N.J./Wall) drove in the only MU run, while Robbie Alessandrine (Sewell, N.J./Gloucester Catholic) was on base three times for the Blue and White with a double, a run scored and a pair of walks. The Hawks committed six errors defensively on the day.

Hunt worked through two early base runners in the first by inducing a 6-4-3 double play to escape the frame. Monmouth put a pair of runners on in their half of the second, but stranded both in scoring position. With two down in the third, MU pressured again but left the bases loaded in the inning.

Knight led off the home third with a double to center, and following a walk and a ground out, Daniel Salters hit a ball hard to second base that got through, and both runners scored on the error to give the Patriots a 2-0 lead after three.

Trooper Reynolds led off the fourth with a solo home run, and DBU added another in the inning on a double play ball to build the lead to 4-0. It would stand at that until the top of the fifth, when MU got a leadoff opposite field double from Alessandrine leading off. He moved over to third on a Steve Wilgus (Woolwich, N.J./Gloucester Catholic) ground out, and White drove him in with a sac fly to cut the deficit to 4-1.

With two down in the fifth, Martinelli hit his second home run of the season to extend the lead to 5-1. Dallas Baptist would add another in the sixth to put the advantage at 6-1. MU loaded the bases with no outs in the ninth but couldn't produce a run and fell to Dallas Baptist for the second straight day.

The series concludes tomorrow at 1:30 p.m. at Horner Ballpark in Dallas, Texas.
