EDISON, N.J.  – For the second time this season, Monmouth University junior Victor Pugliese (Boulogne, France/CNED [San Diego]) has been named Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Men's Tennis Player of the Week, league officials announced Wednesday. Pugliese, the Hawks' No. 1 singles player, has won nine of his last 10 matches and stands 15-4 overall in single events in his first year in a Monmouth uniform.

Pugliese ran his winning streak to seven matches with his pair of conference wins this past week. The junior transfer cruised to a 6-3, 6-1 win over Saint Peter's Carlos Carrera on Tuesday before earning the deciding point for the Blue and White at Niagara on Saturday. With the score tied 3-3, Pugliese won his opening set against the Purple Eagles' Michael Elortegui 6-1, but fell in the tiebreaker of the second set 6-7 (5-7). Pugliese responded in the third set by notching a 6-3 win, clinching the Hawks' fourth consecutive victory.

Monmouth (6-6, 2-0 MAAC), which plays seven of its final nine matches at home, takes on Villanova in its spring home opener on Wednesday before welcoming Wagner to West Long Branch on Thursday, April 3rd.
