MEN'S TENNIS BLANKS LAFAYETTE, 7-0

TINTON FALLS, N.J. – The Monmouth University men's tennis team cruised to a 7-0 victory over Lafayette College, Friday afternoon on neutral courts at the Shrewsbury Racket Club. The Hawks, who took the doubles point and then won all but one singles set, improve to 2-5 on the year, while the Leopards fall to 1-2 in dual matches.

"It feels great to pick up a convincing win,” stated head coach Cory Hubbard. “We have had so many 4-3 matches this spring so this should be good for our team's confidence. We still have a lot of room for improvement and we need to play with a lot more energy and urgency in our upcoming matches."

In doubles play, Luke Adamus (Mosman, New South Wales/Redlands) and Victor Pugliese (Boulogne, France/CNED [San Diego]) downed Brian Pinkard and Chris Matturri 8-2 and Richard Chen (Shanghai, China/Pendleton School), making his Monmouth debut at No. 3 doubles, along with teammate Bee Kumthonkittikul (Bangkok, Thailand/Pendleton School) held off Gavin Studner and Jack Lazer 8-5 to clinch the point for MU.

Pugliese kicked off the single portion of the match with his second-straight victory at No. 1 singles, downing Brandon Goldstein 6-2, 6-0. Freddy Marcinkowski (Sparta, N.J./Sparta), playing No. 4, earned a 6-1, 6-0 win over Chris Matturri to extended the Hawks' lead to 3-0. Kumthonkittikul sealed MU's victory with his 7-6, 6-2 win at No. 2 over Pinkard. Adamus downed Brian Stefanowicz at No. 3, 3-6, 6-4, 6-3, Ramy Bekhiet (Robbinsville, N.J./Robbinsville) cruised to a 6-2, 6-0 win over Lazar and Daniil Ginzburg (Moscow, Russia/Moscow PS #1384), making his second dual match appearance of the season, captured 6-3, 6-0 victory over Studner at No. 5 to complete the shutout for the Blue and White.

With the impending weather set to hit the Northeast on Sunday into Monday, the Hawks' match at Drexel has been postponed with a make-up date forthcoming. Monmouth returns to the courts on Sunday, March 9th as it travels to Navy for a non-conference tilt in Annapolis, Md.
