WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. - For a 17th straight year, the Monmouth University women's soccer team was named a 2014 NSCAA College Team Academic Award Winner, the organization announced on Tuesday. A total of 864 soccer teams on all levels (281 men, 583 women) posted a team grade point average of 3.0 or higher, thereby earning the NSCAA Team Academic Award for the 2013-14 academic year.
“To receive this award for the 17th straight year is quite an accomplishment," stated head coach Krissy Turner, who has had 25 players earn MAAC Women's Soccer All-Academic Team status (3.2 GPA or higher) in the last two years. "We are committed to being successful on and off the field and the players in our program have embraced their roles as student-athletes."
The women logged an overall grade point average of 3.39 in 2013-14, with a spring '14 mark of 3.42. In addition, 19 members of the women's soccer team were added to the 2013-14 MAAC Academic Honor Roll (3.2 GPA or higher).
Monmouth, the 2014 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference regular season champions, finished the year 14-5 overall and 9-1 in the MAAC, which increased its two-year MAAC record to 17-1-2.
Turner, a two-time MAAC Coach of the Year recipient, who has earned five conference coach of the year accolades in her career, guided Monmouth to its ninth straight season with a double-digit victory total, as the Blue & White finished the year ranked in the NSCAA Northeast Region for five straight weeks, peaking at No. 7 on October 21.
