HAWKS GRAB FOUR MORE ALL-EAST HONORS ON FINAL DAY

PRINCETON, N.J. - Members of the Monmouth University men's and women's track and field teams wrapped up competition at the 2013 ECAC/IC4A Championships at William Weaver Track & Field Stadium at Princeton University on Sunday, as four more Hawk entrants earned All-East honors.

Joining Taylor Johnson (discus) and Mariah Toussaint (long jump), who earned All-East honors the first two days of the Championships for the MU women were Errol Jeffrey in the shot put, the men's 4x800 relay, Rachel Watkins in the 400 hurdles and Rachel Aliotta in the shot put.

Jeffrey took fourth in the men's shot put, throwing 56'3.75" to earn All-East honors to start things off the for the Hawks on Sunday, while the men's 4x800 relay of sophomores Andrew Langille, Luis Reyes, and Alex Leight along with senior captain Ford Palmer won the IC4A Championships. In a tactical race with five teams finishing within a second of each other, the Hawks earned their first ever IC4A victory in a track event in a time of 7:35.54. Monmouth's men, also the winners of the distance medley relay at the Indoor IC4A Championships, earned All-East honors for the finish.

Monmouth finished 22nd of 104 schools overall, just missing another top 20 finish. The Hawks had finished in the top 20 at this meet eight of the last 11 years, including an 11th place finish last year.

"The men's team had some missed opportunities this weekend, but the 4x800 was a major highlight. Andrew handed off with the lead, Luis and Alex were able to keep us near the front, and then Ford made a big move in the second lap to take the lead and hold off a wave of teams," noted head coach Joe Compagni.

Monmouth's women finished 12th of 87 schools at the Division I ECAC Championships, its best finish in school history. The Hawks tallied 26 points, beating the previous best finish of 15th place with 22 points last year.

Leading the way was Watkins, winning the first track event ever at the ECAC Championships for the Hawks. A day after setting the school record of 59.42 in the 400 hurdle preliminaries, Watkins ran 58.67 in the finals to claim the crown.

Also earning All-East honors was junior thrower Aliotta, who threw 49'1.5" (14.97m) to finish fourth in the shot put, breaking her own school record set two weeks ago by almost a foot.

Compagni added, "The women's team has done a great job all season, and their finish here is one more accomplishment they can be proud of."

Monmouth is expected to have at least nine athletes earn bids to the First Round of the NCAA Championships, to be held May 23-25 in Greensboro, N.C. Watkins, Aliotta, Johnson, Faith Blamon (javelin), Symmone Fisher (hammer), Palmer (1500), Jeffrey, Kevin Gilhuly (javelin), and McLean Lipschutz (javelin) are all ranked high enough to be invited.
