SOMERSET, N.J. - Northeast Conference officials announced on Monday that sophomore Amanda Schoenfeld (West Sayville, N.Y./Connetquot) has been named Northeast Conference Player of the Week. Schoenfeld, the first Hawk to claim a NEC honor this season, recorded six points and had a hand in five of MU's seven goals this past weekend which saw the Blue and White post back-to-back road NEC victories.
In Monmouth's 3-0 win over Quinnipiac, the sophomore chipped in an assist before having a breakout game against Sacred Heart on Sunday. The forward helped MU build a 2-0 lead against the Pioneers before the game was five minutes old, finding Michelle Pieczynski (Doylestown, Pa./Central Buck West) for a one-timer 2:47 into regulation. Nearly a minute and a half later, Schoenfeld found the back of the cage after taking a feed from graduate Tara Brown (Hatboro, Pa./Archbishop Wood) and working around the Pioneers' goalkeeper for her fourth goal of the year. The West Sayville, New York native connected again with Pieczynski 12:04 into the second half, which proved to be the game-winner, and registered her final helper with just under 10 minutes to play on freshman Orla Macken's (Dublin, Ireland/Rathdown School) first career goal. Schoenfeld finished the day with a career-high five points while also setting a new Monmouth single-game record with three assists.
MU, which finished its seven-game road trip with a 4-3 record, returns home this weekend as it welcomes Bryant (Friday, 4 p.m.) and associate-NEC member Siena (Sunday, 12 p.m.) to West Long Branch.
